Very beautiful snare - nice for smack
brkmnd 27.07.2021
I bought this snare. To be honest the buy was quite impulsive. I already have a SLP walnut snare. I think that one compared to this in sound are quite similar. This has a lot of attack and smack when tuned high. I mainly use it for recording, it fits very well in electronic music like drum-n-bass and dubstep, or in funky/jazzy things. Other genres would probably work nice as well. The rimshots are not as pronounced as with my SLP snare. This makes this snare more "controlled". It does not have the same snare wire count, though these snares are of better quality - hence this snare is not as snare-wet as the SLP which I really like.

The build quality is top notch all way around. It is made in Japan. It comes with a dampening ring, I'm pretty sure this is used on the demo on this page. That's why the drum is so dry and crisp. I have discarded the ring, instead I use a HD dry head. With this and no dampening the drum sits very nice in the mix - short clean sustain, a lot of smack and a pleasant body.

Beautiful and well sounding instrument
nonnitromma 20.08.2023
A student of mine brought this Tama Starphonic to a drum lesson.
He wanted me to tune it, witch I did, but on the way there I totally connected with it. The consequences where that I have had a drum like that on my snare stand in my classroom since I got it from Thomann.
The Tama Starphonic Maple is a very nice and versatile snare drum and the look is quite unique.

Nice build quality, but the sound is missing
Gaer 18.01.2024
The build quality of this drum is excellent.
But I've been dealing with too many overtones from it since I got it.
Tuning it to get the sound I wanted was difficult, possibly due to the "Starphonic" hoops, which I didn't really like.
I prefer the sound of a less expensive Tama Starclassic Performer Maple/Birch snare that matches my drum kit.

On my current snare, a factory-installed Evans G1 head sounds great. But with the Starphonic, I had to dampen it to reduce the overtones.

Snare Tama Supraphonic Maple
Vojta CZ 05.02.2021
Excelent snare .. strongly recomended
1. excelent design - really nice
2. excelent sound (used in rock, praise and worship style)
3. excelent tuning - very sensitive, easy to tune
Maybe there are more expensive snares and maybe these are "better", but this is the super choice .
