I generally like it. The woodwork on the inside of the instrument could be a bit better. The backplate is screwed on, not magnetic, unlike on some other models - this is just a note, not a downside, at least not personally. I like its open-back tuners, tuning the strings is not that straightforward though. You have to pull them and make big turns. The frets are well processed - no sharp edges. It produces a pleasing acoustic sound. I like the feel of its Thundergut strings, but I find them harder to play fast than metal strings, because of the material. They are slightly sticky. I find the E string a bit quirky - the sound is muddier than on the others and sounds slightly out of tune when played close to the sound hole. I prefer the sound it produces when it's tuned slightly flat (the E string). I'd prefer the guitar without the active electronics - with a different (simpler) pickup system. I'd like to eventually swap the strings for Thunder Reds to see if I like those any better. I haven't yet tried making any neck adjustments to see if I could get rid of some of the quirks that way.

Super ukulélé basse!!!

Je suis super contente de mon achat!
Bassiste depuis plus de 15 ans (4, 5 et 6 cordes), ça faisait un moment que je pensais à me procurer un ukulele basse pour voyager, ou pour les concerts qui s'y prêtent pour ne pas tout le temps transporter mes basses. J'en avais testé un de la même marque dans un magasin de Paris, j'avais grave kiffé le son! Et j'ai donc franchi le pas cette année pour mon anniversaire (cadeau de tous les amis ça fait encore plus plaisir <3). Je suis entièrement conquise, le son est génial, l'accordeur fonctionne très bien et l'instrument est magnifique.
Je ne peux que recommander cet article.

Ein nicht nur schönes Instrument

Ich habe mich in den Kala U-Bass Spalted Maple 4 NT bereits seit der Ankündigung auf den ersten Blick verliebt. Ein wunderschönes Instrument. Auf den Bildern ... Ich war auf den ersten, realen Eindruck gespannt.
Ich hatte zuvor die Abteilung kontaktiert, um mir den U-Bass zum Testen für einen Tag zurückzulegen. Hat wunderbar funktioniert.
Mein erster Eindruck, als ich das Instrument in den Händen hielt, bestätigte meine Hoffnung, dass es sich um einen qualitativ hochwertigen U-Bass handelt: wunderbare Verarbeitung, die Ahorndecke ein wahrer Hingucker.
Seit über fünf Jahren spiel(t)e ich den Harley Benton U-Bass, war bis auf Kleinigkeiten, damit zufrieden. Somit hatte ich einen direkten Vergleich. Der Hals des Kala U-Bass ist etwas breiter als der des Harley Benton, dennoch leichter bespielbar. Die Mechaniken sind solide verarbeitet und leichtgängig. Die Saitenlage erlaubt schnelles, exaktes Greifen, ohne einen großen Druck ausüben zu müssen. Alle Saiten haben die gleiche Lautstärke, Intonation und Sound sind super. Die Stimmung blieb bereits nach kurzer Zeit stabil. Der eingebaute Tuner funktioniert besser als gedacht. Hatte ich nicht erwartet.
Nachteil ist der fehlende zweite Gurtpin. Aber vor Ort ließ sich das ändern und er wurde sofort montiert. Somit stellt das auch kein Problem mehr dar.
Ich freue mich immer wieder über dieses hochwertige und gleichzeitig wunderschöne Instrument.

Parfait dans son genre

J'ai acheté ce modèle après avoir testé le concept avec un U-Bass Harley Benton. La qualité est top, le manche confortable.

Le son: il ne faut pas s'attendre à du polyvalent, on a un son rond et chantant qui se rapproche d'une contrebasse (sans l'égaler toutefois, bien sûr). Je l'utilise dans une formation jazz est c'est parfait! Ca fonctionnerait sans doute aussi avec du vieux rock'n'roll ou du rockabilly.

Outre le son, la petite taille et la présence d'une caisse de résonance en font un parfait petit instrument pour travailler en voyage sans avoir à se brancher (ce qui était la raison première de mon achat).

Le toucher des cordes est particulier, il faut s'y habituer, mais ça vaut le coup. Je recommande!

Seul bémol: la housse "Deluxe" fournie n'est pas si deluxe qu ça, avec un rembourrage assez fin; on n'a pas du tout l'impression qu'elle protège réellement l'instrument. J'ai acheté en plus la housse "Thomann Uke Bass - Baritone Uke Gigbag" (réf 396739), qui pour un prix modique est bien meilleure et a des poches beaucoup plus pratiques.
